While VCOM has formed collaborative partnerships with other colleges and universities, the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is granted and conferred solely by the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and is not affiliated with any of VCOM’s affiliated colleges or universities, including but not limited to Virginia Tech, Auburn University, or the University of Louisiana Monroe.
Each year, the College admits between 150 and 162 medical students per class, for a total student body of 600.
Spartanburg, South Carolina, was selected as the second VCOM location due to a significant need for primary care doctors in the state. Since its founding in 2010 in the heart of the targeted region, VCOM-Carolinas has flooded the western Appalachian region of NC and the upstate region of SC with new physicians. Today, South Carolina's family medicine residencies are filled with VCOM-Carolinas graduates. In South Carolina family medicine residency programs, VCOM graduates outnumber the residents from all three of the other Carolinas' medical schools combined.
